Successful Development of MR Technology for Seamless Transition between Real and Virtual Environments Using a Physical Door
~Enhancing user experience in virtual environments in various fields including tourism and real estate~

Japanese

Seamless transition of real and virtual environments has been scientifically proven important for an enhanced virtual reality experience where users feel like they "truly exist within the virtual space". Some commercial entrance/exit systems such as real doors have been realized by smartphones or head-mounted displays as a boundary between real and virtual spaces. There has been no systems where physical doors were used as a boundary, that allow users to operate them to receive multisensory information, such as tactile and auditory feedback. NAIST (Nara Institute of Science and Technology) has focused on the enhancement of user experience through the use of physical doors accompanied by multisensory feedback, faithfully mirroring user actions, and has scientifically validated this approach *. Based on NAIST's scientific findings, NTT DOCOMO has developed a new technology to dynamically recognize hand and door movements, realizing a system that easily enhances the user experience.
