What Is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a SIM embedded in a device that can be remotely programmed with customer information such as phone numbers.
Unlike a physical SIM card, there is no need to obtain a SIM card through a storefront or mail, or to insert it into the device, making it easier to start using the telecommunications service.
The docomo Online Shop, ahamo website and irumo website use eKYC (*2) process for identity verification. If you are a user of an eSIM-compatible device, you can apply for a new line contract online, and your telecommunication service will be available in as quick as one hour after the online application.

- We do not guarantee the operation of models other than those purchased from DOCOMO retailers or from other companies.
- Kids' Keitai Plan is not supported when contracting eSIM at the docomo Online Shop.
- The models are not supported on ahamo.
- DOCOMO Drive Recorder DDR01, dtab Compact d-01J, dtab d-01K, and dtab Compact d-02K are not eligible for online application.
Notes on Using eSIM
Regarding the dual SIM function (*), we have confirmed that voice calls, SMS, data communication, and emergency calls can be used on DOCOMO lines. Operation on lines other than DOCOMO lines has not been tested.

Switching from a SIM card to an eSIM/Reissuing an eSIM
Customers with a DOCOMO line contract

Customers with an ahamo line contract
You can apply via the ahamo website. Please apply from the "eSIM Issuance/Reissue Procedures" page.
Customers with an irumo line contract
You can apply via the irumo website.
- A handling fee of 3,850 yen (incl. tax) may be charged for procedures at docomo Shops or Call Centers.
About eSIM Quick Transfer
If you are using an iPhone/iPad that supports eSIM quick transfer, you can reissue an eSIM on the device settings. No application procedures are required, making it easier to start using the telecommunications service.
- About eSIM Quick Transfer (in Japanese only)
- This procedure is also available for current SIM card users.
- This function does not support transfer between iPhone and iPad.
About eSIM Transfer on Android
If you are using an Android smartphone that supports eSIM transfer, you can issue an eSIM from the device settings. This makes it easier to activate your phone without having to remove and insert the SIM card when you change your device model.
