Use notes for international dialing/messaging service
- NTT DOCOMO (hereinafter referred to as "DOCOMO") provides the international dialing service "WORLD CALL" (hereinafter referred to as "the Service" or "this Service") based on the
"International Dialing Service Terms and Conditions" (PDF format:570KB) (in Japanese only). Before using the Service, please be sure to read
the International Dialing Service Terms and Conditions (PDF format:570KB) (in Japanese only) and consent to the following Use Notes.
Note that application procedures are required to use the Service.
1. Charges
- The charges for use of the Service vary according to the country, region and the called party. The billing structure for the Service differs from that of 5G and Xi services. Together with the Other Use Notes, please refer to the latest information shown at "Service areas and voice/data communications charges" (in Japanese only).
- Communications allowances included in Xi data communications dedicated plans do not apply.
- You will not be able to use the Service if you have applied for 5G Data Plus, Data Plus 2, Device Plus 500, or Device Plus 300, etc.
- The charges for the Service will be listed on your bill separately from 5G and Xi call charges.
- A separate application is required to use the Itemized Billing Service for voice/data communications charges with the Service.
- The voice/data communications charges in this Service are included in the approximate amount applicable under the Charge Notice Service.
- If you have subscribed to the Charge Notice Service, you will be notified when the approximate amount for the total of the voice/data communications charges for the Service, International SMS communications charges, and domestic voice/data communications charges, etc. exceeds the amount you set in advance.
2. Limit on usage charges (Usage Limit)
- At the time of 5G or Xi service subscription, DOCOMO will set a monthly limit (hereinafter referred to as the “Usage Limit”) on the combined total of charges incurred for the Service and International SMS (outgoing messages only). The amount of the Usage Limit (initially set at JPY 20,000) shall be determined by DOCOMO.
- DOCOMO will inform you of the Usage Limit at the time of application. Furthermore, customers who are subscribed to the 5G service (excluding Course B as defined in the 5G Service Agreement) or the Xi service and wish to change the Usage Limit are requested to contact a docomo Shop or the docomo Information Center. Please note that it may not be possible to change the Usage Limit in some cases.
- When subscribing to the Service, the Usage Limit and the cumulative usage amount for International SMS will be carried over to the Service.
- When a customer using the Service changes their subscription to ahamo, the Usage Limit applied prior to the contract change will be carried over.
- Customers subscribed to ahamo are not able to change the Usage Limit.
- Please note that once your combined monthly usage amount for the Service and International SMS (outgoing messages only) exceeds the Usage Limit, DOCOMO will suspend the Service and International SMS (outgoing messages only). In this case, you will not be able to use the Service and International SMS (outgoing messages only) for the remainder of the current month.
- Even when the monthly usage charges exceed the Usage Limit, you will be required to pay all the monthly usage charges including those that exceed the Usage Limit.
- For customers subscribed to 5G/Xi services, if DOCOMO confirms payment of the full monthly usage charges while the Service and International SMS (outgoing messages only) are suspended, the suspension will be lifted.
- If you have not yet reached the Usage Limit, but expect that you will exceed it, you can avoid having the Service suspended by paying the total amount of charges for the month at any time during the month. (Whether or not the Service has been suspended, you will be able to use the Service and International SMS (outgoing messages only) again up to the Usage Limit provided that DOCOMO confirms that the total amount of charges for the month has been paid.)
- If the Usage Limit is reached during an ongoing call or communication, the call or communication will not be disconnected and will continue. As a result, the total charges billed for that month may exceed the Usage Limit. In such cases, customers must still pay the full amount of monthly charges, including any portion exceeding the Usage Limit. Even if International SMS message content cannot be properly transmitted due to exceeding the Usage Limit, charges will apply to the portion of transmission that was completed.
- Even if your monthly usage charges reach the Usage Limit, in some cases the Service may not be suspended due to factors such as system disruption in DOCOMO telecommunications equipment. In addition, when making calls from WideStar II or WideStar III, charges may exceed the Usage Limit depending on recent call usage. In such cases, you will still be required to pay all the usage charges for that month, including those that exceed the Usage Limit.
- If the Service is suspended because your monthly usage charges exceeded the Usage Limit, it will become available again on the first day of the following month.
3. When changes are made to 5G or Xi service subscription
Changes to your 5G/Xi service subscription will affect the Service as follows:

- 1 You will be able to continue using the Service if the transfer of subscription occurred between July 1, 2003 and August 31, 2005.
- 2 If you change your subscription from Xi to 5G or from 5G to Xi, the subscription for the Service and monthly usage charges for the Service for the month in which the change was made will be carried over to the new subscription.
4. Other important points
- Some DOCOMO services cannot be used at the same time as the Service.
- Depending on the communications conditions of the telephone company in the country you are calling, there may be cases where call and communication fees arise if you are connected to an advisory service from a telephone company of the country you are calling or when a ringtone sounds, etc., even if you do not connect to the party you are calling.
- As a general rule, charges will apply even if the number is a domestic toll-free number in the country you are calling. Please also be aware that some services, including toll-free numbers, may not be available.
- Lines may be congested and it may be difficult to make connections at certain times of the day.
- Even if your phone is set to display the caller ID to the other party, your phone number may not be displayed properly depending on the circumstances of the carrier.
5. Changes to the Use Notes
- DOCOMO reserves the right to make changes to the above Use Notes as necessary. When a change is made, details of the change will be notified through means such as the DOCOMO website.

Note that application procedures are not required to use the Service. - Communications charges for this Service differ from communications charges within Japan. For further information, please refer to the website for this Service.
- Communications charges for this Service are not included in the Cumulative Monthly Charges subject to the WORLD WING monthly limit for service suspension or WORLD CALL monthly limit on communications charges.
- If you have subscribed to the Charge Notice Service, you will be notified when the approximate amount for the total of the voice/data communications charges for the Service, WORLD CALL voice/data communications charges, and domestic voice/data communications charges, etc. exceeds the amount you set in advance.
- On models that support Apple's Messages via satellite, you will be able to use the Service via satellite even when outside of cellular coverage. Please note that an application to WORLD WING is required to use this function.
- Depending on the iPhone's settings and other conditions, sending or receiving SMS messages via satellite may not be possible. For details, please refer to Apple's website.
- You can send characters that can be displayed on 5G service or Xi service mobile phones. However, sent characters may not be displayed properly depending on the carrier's communications service and mobile phone functions of the other party.
- This Service may be available even outside the service area. Charges will also apply if you use SMS in such cases.
- If the main text of an International SMS message exceeds 70 full-size or 160 half-size alphanumeric characters, the message will be divided into multiple International SMS messages. It may also be divided into multiple International SMS messages when received, or characters may be corrupted.
- Due to Mobile Number Portability (MNP), you may be unable to exchange International SMS messages with users of certain carriers.
- Settings can be configured to reject International SMS by using the Reject All SMS and Reject International SMS functions.
- With Reject International SMS, you can reject International SMS messages from users of carriers. This will not apply to SMS messages from other DOCOMO users who are using international roaming.
- Even if you send a message to a nonexistent mobile phone number, communications charges may still apply.
- Communications charges are only incurred when you send International SMS messages (communications charges do not apply for receiving International SMS messages). Communications charges may also be incurred even if an International SMS message could not be delivered due to an error in the transmission method, etc.
- When using the WORLD WING at your destination, you may not be able to send or receive International SMS messages depending on the network of the carrier at your travel destination.
- The SMS Delivery Notification function may be available with this Service depending on overseas communications conditions and other factors, but depending on the carrier receiving your SMS messages, you may receive the SMS Delivery Notification even before your message is delivered to the other party's device. Charges will not apply to use the SMS Delivery Notification function.
- You may also be able to use International SMS to exchange messages with users of carriers other than those indicated in "Send text messages (International SMS)". Charges will apply if you use SMS in such cases.
- When using applications on a smartphones, etc., there may be cases where an International SMS message is delivered to the recipient.
- International SMS messages sent from Japan to Ukraine have been provided free of charge since March 1, 2022 (Japan time). When this comes to an end, details will be notified through means such as the DOCOMO website.
Limit on usage charges (Usage Limit)
- If you do not subscribe to WORLD CALL, DOCOMO will set a monthly limit for charges (hereinafter referred to as the “Usage Limit”) incurred when using International SMS transmissions. The Usage Limit (initially set at JPY 20,000) shall be determined by DOCOMO.
- Customers who subscribe to WORLD CALL should refer to “WORLD CALL Terms of Use,” Section 2 “Limit on usage charges”.
- DOCOMO will inform you of the Usage Limit at the time of application. Furthermore, customers who are subscribed to the 5G service (excluding Course B as defined in the 5G Service Agreement) or the Xi service and wish to change the Usage Limit are requested to contact a docomo Shop or the docomo Information Center. Please note that it may not be possible to change the Usage Limit in some cases.
- Please note that once your monthly usage amount for International SMS transmissions has exceeded the limit, DOCOMO will suspend outgoing International SMS transmissions. In this case, you will not be able to use outgoing International SMS transmissions for the remainder of the current month. Even if the international SMS message content cannot be fully transmitted due to exceeding the monthly limit, charges will apply for the portion of the message that has been successfully transmitted.
- For customers subscribed to the 5G/Xi service, if DOCOMO confirms payment of the total amount of charges for the month for International SMS transmissions while outgoing International SMS transmissions are suspended, the suspension will be lifted.
- For customers subscribed to the 5G/Xi service, if you have not yet reached the Usage Limit but expect that you will exceed it, you may make payment of the total amount of charges for the relevant month in advance.
Regardless of whether outgoing International SMS transmissions have been suspended, once DOCOMO confirms payment of the total amount of charges for the month, you will be able to use outgoing International SMS transmissions again up to the Usage Limit. - If the outgoing International SMS transmissions are suspended because your monthly usage charges exceeded the Usage Limit, it will become available again on the first day of the following month.
- If your WORLD CALL subscription is canceled, the Usage Limit and cumulative usage amount set under WORLD CALL will be carried over to this service.
- If you do not subscribe to WORLD CALL, when subscribing to the 5G/Xi service or completing various procedures for an existing line, DOCOMO will automatically apply the International SMS Monthly Limit Option.
- By applying the International SMS Monthly Limit Option, you will be able to check your usage status for International SMS transmissions and confirm the Usage Limit.
Customers who wish to apply for this option may do so at a docomo Shop, the docomo Information Center, or through docomo online procedures. - DOCOMO reserves the right to make changes to the above Use Notes as necessary. When a change is made, details of the change will be notified through means such as the DOCOMO website.
