DOCOMO Completes Japan's First Commercial Deployment of Ericsson's Latest High-Capacity RAN Processor 6672

TOKYO, JAPAN, July 31, 2026 --- NTT DOCOMO, INC. ("DOCOMO"), in collaboration with Ericsson, has completed Japan's first^*1 commercial deployment of Ericsson's latest high-capacity baseband solution, the RAN Processor 6672 ("the Solution"). In addition, DOCOMO plans to further expand the deployment of Ericsson's RAN Processor 6655 as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance network capacity and performance.

The Solution supports multiple generations of mobile network technologies, including 4G and 5G, and is engineered to provide industry-leading capacity and energy efficiency. Compared with Ericsson's previous generation of baseband solutions, it delivers up to four times higher capacity efficiency while reducing energy consumption by more than 50%, helping to build a more sustainable network through enhanced operational efficiency and lower total cost of ownership. The Solution also enables DOCOMO to accommodate continued growth in mobile data traffic demand while maintaining a stable and high-quality network experience for customers.

The solution is complies with O-RAN ALLIANCE^*2 specifications, establishing a foundation for interoperability with O-RAN compliant radio units from multiple vendors. By combining the solution with radio units optimized for different deployment scenarios, DOCOMO can rapidly and flexibly expand of 5G coverage, including in densely populated urban areas where data traffic demand is particularly high.

In addition, DOCOMO will maximize the use of its 280 MHz of combined spectrum resources across the 3.5 GHz, 3.7 GHz, and 4.5 GHz frequency bands through Massive MIMO Units (MMUs) and the latest base station equipment. This will enable the delivery of high-capacity, high-quality mobile connectivity, ensuring an enhanced customer experience even in traffic-intensive environments such as urban hotspots and large-scale events.

Moving forward, DOCOMO will continue to promote Open RAN by leveraging technological innovation and automation across multi-vendor environments, while advancing the evolution of its network infrastructure toward the 6G era.
