NTT DoCoMo announced today minor updates to software for FOMA F903i and D903i. We encourage our users to make these software updates to improve mobile phone performance as shown below.
These updates fix the following issues:
- When an image photographed with FOMA F903i or D903i handsets is sent as a mail attachment before it is resized or otherwise edited, some information required to display the image will not be included. This means that the image cannot be displayed when the mail is received on a FOMA SH903i handset.
- When changing models etc., you may transfer data containing the entire Phonebook from another handset to a FOMA F903i or D903i. However, if the Phonebook contains an empty group folder, and the display order for the group folder is changed after the transfer, you will no longer be able to open any Phonebook content.

The problem occurs only when the transferred Phonebook is saved by overwriting the previous Phonebook. |

If this problem occurs, switch the handset off and on again to restore access to the Phonebook screen. |
- If mail with attached image files is sent from a Hotmail1 account to a FOMA F903i or D903i handset by selecting File from the Attach menu then specifying the image to attach, the FOMA F903i or D903i handset will not be able to receive the message. It will be saved at the i-mode center as undelivered mail, and you will no longer be able to send or receive mail or view the contents of the inbox.

To restore mail service, you should activate the Retrieve Selected Mail Setting on the handset, access your mail at the i-mode center, delete the problem message, and then switch your handset off and on again. |

These software updates also include other enhancements for FOMA F903i and D903i in addition to solving the issues above.

It takes approximately 10 to 12 minutes to download and update software. Please note that the mobile phone will not be available for use during this time. The Timer Update function will enable you to perform software updates while you are asleep or other times that are convenient for you, so we recommend that you take advantage of this function.
Also note that you should never remove the battery pack while updating software, as it will cause the phone to malfunction. |

Updates of the software can be done while keeping Phonebook entries, camera images, downloaded data and other data saved on the phone intact. However, please note that in some cases data cannot be protected depending on the condition of your mobile phone (malfunction, damage, water exposure, etc.). It is recommended that you back up necessary data. |

If the software update fails, please bring the phone to a repair counter designated by DoCoMo. |

Please refer to the Software Update Simplified Operating Procedures below or P. 474 to 478 of your FOMA F903i user's manual or P. 474 to 478 of your FOMA D903i user's manual.

4. Notification by post
A direct mail announcement about the software update will be sent to subscribers who purchased FOMA F903i or D903i handsets on or before Sunday, December 10, 2006.
