DOCOMO Trials Panorama Photo App that Converts Images into Video
TOKYO, JAPAN, June 6, 2013 --- NTT DOCOMO, INC., a personalized mobile solutions provider for smarter living, announced today that it has launched a free trial smartphone application that creates dynamic panoramic images by automatically stitching photos together and then converting part of the still panorama into video.
The app is unique in that it enables the user to select an image in the panorama, such as a Ferris wheel, and convert it into video. Sound also can be added.
The user takes a series of photos while moving the phone in a sweeping motion guided by the application. Cloud processing is used to seamlessly stitch the photos together and convert the user-selected image into video.
The resulting image expresses spatial depth similar to a projection on a curved screen, and the viewing angle can be changed simply by swiping the screen.
The photos can be shared via the cloud-based docomo Photo Collection service and the docomo SP mode mailing service for DOCOMO's smartphones and tablets.
DOCOMO is offering the service on a trial basis until the end of November, based on which it will incorporate user feedback to improve the service for commercial launch.
