TOKYO, JAPAN, October 10, 2003 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight subsidiaries announced today that they will introduce software renewal systems allowing users of mova® and FOMA® handsets to access DoCoMo server and download new software for upgrades using their own handsets, beginning October 17, 2003.
The system will enable users to update software to deal with glitches, without visiting DoCoMo shops. In future, DoCoMo will also consider applying the new system to enhance software capabilities of handsets.
The new system is applicable only to DoCoMo's latest i-mode handset, the mova 252i series, which is already being marketed. In future, all new handsets for mova and FOMA are scheduled to be equipped with the system. Downloading new software will be free of charge.
In line with official requirements, DoCoMo has notified the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications of the new system.
