TOKYO, JAPAN, September 2, 2003 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries announced today they will market the F672i (Raku Raku PHONE III) from September 5, 2003. This is the latest in DoCoMo's easy-to-use handset series offering a range of innovative and convenient features. As with earlier handsets in the series, three large buttons on the outside of the closed phone each enable one-touch calling to an assigned number without even opening the phone. Likewise, the new F672i enables enlarged text display and voice output of various content. Of particular note, however, is the fact that the handset is the world's first to be equipped with a pedometer function.
The pedometer is activated even while the phone is being carried in a handbag, etc. By setting the user's weight and length of stride, distance walked and calories consumed can be calculated and displayed on screen.
Furthermore, the pedometer function is integrated with the handset mailing system. Email messages indicating the amount of walking, and corresponding calorie burn, can automatically be sent to a designated mail address at a preset time everyday. This function is particularly relevant to users wishing to regularly update their doctors with this data. Conversely, when a message is received from a designated address and with a predetermined subject line, an email message containing the latest data on number of strides will automatically be returned to the sender.
Another convenient function is the display of instructions on how to create and send mail. These include appropriate arrows and other graphics, and smoothly walk the user through the entire emailing process.
The handset's "read-aloud" feature encompasses a wider range of voice readout capability than earlier models in the series, including text from sites, handset calculator input and output, mail messages, notification of outgoing-message transmission, full-battery recharge alert, and more.
The new handset will be marketed through all DoCoMo sales channels. The retail price is open (not fixed). The standard accessory kit, including a battery pack, AC adapter and desktop holder, costs 4,900 yen (pricing may vary in markets of eight regional subsidiaries).
