TOKYO, JAPAN, July 15, 2003 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries today announced that they will begin marketing the 3G N2102V videophone from July 18, 2003. The smallest in the FOMA series, the new model boasts a compact (98cc) and lightweight (109g) design that is on a par with 2G handsets. It also features an enhanced mail function and longer battery life.
The N2102V's enhanced Speed photo mail™ function allows users to simultaneously call and send mail with attached photos taken either on-the-spot or previously saved. When enabled, the function automatically displays the e-mail address link of the person being called.
Picture voice™ enables voice to be incorporated in still photos taken with the handset. Users can transmit such pictures as i-motion™ mail attachments.
The clamshell-design handset offers continuous stand-by times of approximately 270 hours static and 200 hours dynamic.
The N2102V is equipped with an outer CMOS camera (320,000 effective pixels) and inner CMOS camera (110,000 effective pixels). Each of these can capture standard still shots, take 10 continuous still shots and record up to 270 seconds worth of video clips. Furthermore, still shots extracted from either the 10-shot portfolio or from video clips can be attached to mail.
The outer camera comes with Access Reader for scanning and storing URLs, mail addresses and telephone numbers that appear in magazines and other printed materials.
The handset is the first FOMA phone to feature an outer color display. This 65,536-color, approx. 1-inch TFT display also functions as a handy viewfinder to facilitate picture taking.
The N2102V is compliant with DoCoMo's new FirstPass™ SSL client authentication service, using internet public key infrastructure (PKI) to ensure enhanced network security when making mobile payments and other e-commerce transactions over the FOMA network. (For more details on the FirstPass service, please refer to the press release issued on June 20, 2003, located on the company's website.)
Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) audio compression provides CD-quality sound for applications such as DoCoMo's i-motion video clip service.
The FOMA N2102V will be available through all DoCoMo sales channels. The price of the handset itself will be open (unfixed), and its standard accessory kit, including battery pack, AC adapter and desktop holder, will cost 4,400 yen*.*Pricing may vary in markets of the eight regional subsidiaries.
