TOKYO, JAPAN, June 25, 2003 --- NTT DoCoMo, Inc. said today that Telefónica Móviles España, S.A. has announced it will introduce , the service developed by DoCoMo, to the Spanish market beginning June 26, 2003. Spain marks the seventh market for i-mode service, which is already available in Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Belgium and France.
DoCoMo concluded a licensing agreement with Telefónica Móviles España and its parent company, Telefónica Móviles, S.A. in July 2002, and has been providing the largest Spanish mobile telecom company, which has approximately 18.7 million subscribers, with patents, technologies and know-how necessary to launch i-mode service. DoCoMo has also played a major role in helping Telefónica Móviles España to establish close ties with content providers and equipment vendors, which is important to building a strong foundation for the service.
DoCoMo sees great growth potential for i-mode in Spain, which, with a population of approx. 41 million, is a major market for mobile communications in Europe.
